Cargo processing at El Paso-Juarez crossing anticipated to renew in 2-3 days, Mexico says

MEXICO CITY, Sept 17 (Reuters) – Cargo processing on the Bridge of the Americas on the U.S.-Mexico border between El Paso, Texas, and the Mexican metropolis of Juarez is anticipated to renew in two to a few days, Mexico stated on Sunday, after the U.S. introduced a pause starting Monday.

U.S. Customs and Border Safety (CBP) on Friday stated a “momentary suspension” of cargo processing beginning Monday would enable its officers on the website to help Border Patrol in processing migrants arriving exterior official crossings.

Mexico’s international ministry stated in a press release it was monitoring the state of affairs after the “unilateral” choice taken by the U.S.

CBP didn’t instantly reply to a request for touch upon the anticipated size of the suspension.

Apprehensions and expulsions of migrants within the El Paso sector reached an almost four-month excessive over the previous week, in line with information from the town. (Reporting by Kylie Madry; Extra reporting by Hannah Lang, modifying by Deepa Babington)
